At Enterprise Evolution, weโ€™re fortunate to have an outstanding board steering our work and today, weโ€™re shining the spotlight on board member, Dr Janine Swail Senior Lecturer in Entrepreneurship at Queenโ€™s Business School, Queen’s University Belfast.

Janine is a leading authority on entrepreneurship, with a specialist focus on gender dynamics and equity in entrepreneurial ecosystems. A County Down native, her career spans continents and institutions, from the University of Auckland in New Zealand to the University of Nottingham and Newcastle University in the UK and now to Queenโ€™s, where she will be shaping the next generation of entrepreneurial thinkers.

Janine’s research digs deep into how gender influences access to finance, especially for women entrepreneurs, and examines the power and pitfalls of angel investment and venture capital in shaping entrepreneurial success.

She has shared her expertise through executive education, business support programmes, and on the global stage at international conferences. Her work has not only been published in top academic journals but has also caught the attention of The Conversation, the Financial Times, and TV New Zealand (TVNZ).

She also brings real impact beyond academia, advising policymakers in the UK and New Zealand including authoring a forthcoming OECD policy note on gender and entrepreneurial finance.

Janine’s voice and vision at the Enterprise Evolution board table, particularly as we continue to build our community, all-island and international connections.

Cross-border collaboration is in our DNA, and Janine’s insights into global trends and local realities will help us shape innovative, inclusive solutions that advance peace, strengthen communities, and create pathways to shared economic prosperity.

At the heart of our mission is the belief that entrepreneurship and community development are forces for good , not only driving economic development and innovation, but also promoting equality, improving health and wellbeing, and building cohesive, resilient communities.

Through partnerships that transcend borders and sectors, we are working to ensure that the benefits of entrepreneurship are felt by all, regardless of gender, background, or geography.

We are privileged to have Dr Swail to help us connect ideas, talent, and opportunity in ways that support prosperity, peace, and equality across these islands and beyond.
