While the development of Women 5.0 is well underway, I thought I would use this time to introduce some of the frameworks involved in its creation.

The first aspect is DigComp. DigComp (The Digital Competence Framework for Citizens) is a European framework developed to highlight the need for digital skills — whether running a business, job hunting, or navigating services online. DigComp is designed to help individuals identify their skill abilities and recognise any gaps in their knowledge. Having up-to-date digital skills isn’t just essential for your career — it is also crucial for keeping yourself safe online.

DigComp has five key areas of digital competence:

  1. Information & Data Literacy – Finding, evaluating, and managing digital information effectively.
  2. Communication & Collaboration – Engaging safely and effectively in digital environments.
  3. Digital Content Creation – Producing, editing, and sharing digital content while respecting copyright and licenses.
  4. Safety – Protecting personal data, privacy, and devices from cyber threats.
  5. Problem-Solving – Using technology to solve issues, develop digital skills, and innovate.

EntreComp DigComp Wheel

Using DigComp in the creation of Women 5.0 will ensure that we develop the most up-to-date and relevant course to upskill women in a digital age. It will help shape the foundations of entrepreneurial thinking and applications for our female entrepreneurs.

EntreComp Framework

The second framework we are exploring while writing the learning programme is EntreComp. EntreComp (The European Entrepreneurship Competence Framework) is a framework developed by the European Commission to define the skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed to grow an entrepreneurial mindset. It provides a common reference point for what it means to be entrepreneurial in different settings — whether starting a business, working within an organisation, or creating social impact.

EntreComp is built around 15 competences divided into three key areas:

  1. Ideas & Opportunities
Turning ideas into action by identifying and seizing opportunities:

  • Spotting opportunities – Identifying needs and challenges to create value.
  • Creativity – Developing creative and purposeful ideas.
  • Vision – Imagining the future and setting goals.
  • Valuing ideas – Recognising the potential value of ideas.
  • Ethical & sustainable thinking – Assessing the impact of ideas on society and the environment.

  1. Resources
Mobilising resources to bring ideas to life:

  • Self-awareness & self-efficacy – Believing in yourself and your abilities.
  • Motivation & perseverance – Staying driven and overcoming obstacles.
  • Mobilising resources – Gathering financial, material, and human resources.
  • Financial & economic literacy – Understanding money management and financial concepts.
  • Mobilising others – Inspiring and involving others to achieve goals.

  1. Into Action
Taking the initiative and turning ideas into reality:

  • Taking the initiative – Acting on opportunities and ideas.
  • Planning & management – Prioritising, organising, and following up.
  • Coping with uncertainty, ambiguity, and risk – Making decisions despite uncertainty.
  • Working with others – Collaborating with others to achieve goals.
  • Learning through experience – Learning from successes and failures.
